Furnace Replacement – Heating Services

A new high efficiency furnace is usually so much more efficient than the furnace in your home now, that the new furnace can pay for itself through lower gas and electricity bills in just a few years.

An aging furnace can lose efficiency, which increases your utility bills, or break down, leaving you without heat on the coldest day of the winter. Mountainwest HVAC in Salt Lake City will perform quality furnace replacements. The guarantee is typically lifetime or twenty years on the heat exchanger, ten years on all other parts and one year on labor. All jobs are performed by trained and experienced installers who you can trust. Bids are always free on new equipment.

Some signs that it may be time to replace that furnace:

  1. Cracked heat exchanger. A cracked heat exchanger is a carbon monoxide hazard. Once a crack is discovered the furnace must be shut down and replaced
  2. Heavy rust in the heat exchanger
  3. Any furnace that is more than approximately 25 years old, due to inefficiency
  4. A repair in excess of approximately $500.00, depending on the age of the furnace.
  5. High utility bills
  6. You experience unacceptable temperature difference between different parts of the house.

Furnace Installation – Heating Services

An aging furnace can lose efficiency, which increases your utility bills, or break down, leaving you without heat on the coldest day of the winter. Mountainwest HVAC in Salt Lake City will perform quality furnace installations. The guarantee is typically lifetime or twenty years on the heat exchanger, ten years on all other parts and one year on labor. All jobs are performed by trained and experienced installers who you can trust. Bids are always free on new equipment.

A typical furnace installation will take a one or two man crew an entire day to accomplish. Some installations, especially if modifications to the existing ducts are required, will take longer. Just removing the old furnace will usually require one to two man hours. Extremely old conversion furnaces can take eight man hours to remove. Then the work of installing the new furnace begins. Connecting your new furnace to your existing duct work will require three or four hours. The last couple of hours of day-long project will consist of connecting the gas line, electricity, control wiring to the thermostat and the flue or exhaust vent. The final steps are to test fire and adjust the furnace. If you are converting from an 80% furnace, vented in metal pipe, to a 90% or higher furnace, vented in PVC pipe, installing the new PVC pipe can be a half-day job. Yes, your installation crew is impressive. They are sheet metal workers, electricians and plumbers, all rolled up into one smart professional.

Furnace Efficency

It’s plain and simple, higher efficiency means lower operating costs for you and being environmentally greener.

Cost Savings: If you have an older furnace (with an AFUE of approximately 60%), you could save up to 40% on your heating bills by replacing it with a new high-efficiency furnace! The cost to replace your old, inefficient furnace can be paid back through lower utility bills.

Energy Star

Energy Star is a government-backed program helping businesses and individuals protect the environment through superior energy efficiency. Products with the Energy Star rating will be efficient and save cost on energy bills.

Furnace Efficiency

AFUE (Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency)

AFUE is the standard measurement of efficiency for gas furnaces. Given in percentages, this number tells you how much of your fuel is used to heat your home and how much fuel is wasted, the higher the AFUE rating, the greater the efficiency. Residential furnaces currently have AFUE ratings ranging from the minimum industry requirement of 80% to more than 96%.
